From the Hochheide hiking parking lot, the tour initially leads along the Rothaarsteig (hiking sign: horizontal R on a red background) towards Schwarzbachtal and the Rhein-Weser-Turm. In the Schwarzbachtal (nature reserve), the circular tour follows the Rothaarsteig access path towards Röspe.Attention ! If you want to find the Hufeisenstein and its history, leave the Rothaarsteig access path for a detour at the "Hufeisenstein" hiking signpost and take hiking trail A 1 towards the Haberg nature reserve for a few meters. At the height where a forest path branches off to the right, after a few steps turn left "through the bushes" to Kurze Dörbach and recognize the Hufeisenstein with a trained eye. From here, follow the hiking trail marked with a K in a white circle, initially heading south. After around 4.5 km, the hiking trail marked with the K leads us directly to the Dreiherrnstein. The audio history provides an exciting insight into the cultural history of this border triangle and tells of more than just peaceful conflicts. From the Dreiherrnstein, the Rothharasteig trail leads north to the Heinsberg Hochheide. After around 1.5 km, you reach the heathland.
