The 9.4 km long hiking trail is a family-friendly hike and takes you through our nature reserve to the MS Muffert boat dock at the dam.
The start of the family hike is at the parking lot Strandbad Heringhausen. Here you will also find a landing stage of the "MS Muffert" which will take you back to the start at the end of the hike. Follow the signs "FW". The path leads to the right over the pier in the direction of Stormbruch, past the campsites and the sailboat harbor to the Itter arm of Lake Diemelsee. You will be led through the nature reserve (NSG) to the confluence of the Itter and the Diemelsee. Once you have arrived, you have the choice of following the Diemelsteig hiking trail (x15) or the ferry boat trail in the direction of Helminghausen. Here you walk past the Helminghausen lido and continue to the boat harbor of the "MS Muffert", which will take you back to the Heringhausen lido.
Starting from the parking lot Heringhausen-Strandbad the path (sign H6) leads first over the Diemel bridge. After the bridge, turn right immediately and follow the course of the lake past several bays. After 4.5 km you have the possibility to get on the excursion boat MS Muffert at the landing stage and to be sailed back to the starting point or you continue to follow the H6.The H6 leaves the shore of the Diemelsee at the nature reserve at the inlet of the Itter into the Diemelsee and leads along above the Diemelsee. You have a fantastic view of the Diemelsee. At the large parking lot Diemeltalsperre you get on the excursion boat MS Muffert and can be brought back comfortably with coffee and cake to the starting point at the hiking parking lot Heringhausen-Strandbad.
