Grimmestraße 8 (church square) 59964 Medebach-Düdinghausen
The premium trail certified with the German Hiking Seal leads through the beautiful inner village ensemble with historical house panels of the "border village between Kurköln and Waldeck", offers the panoramic Aussichtspunkt Kreuzberg mit Kreuzweg and chapel. 4 quarries and 1 ravine with information boards as well as a beech low forest hollow path provide insights into earth, forest and traffic history.
Do you want to find out why Düdinghausen was a tropical bathing paradise at the equator 320 million years before the birth of Christ? Are you interested in the fact that Düdinghausen was bombarded with lava rock from neighboring Waldeck volcanoes at that time? And - where is the line where two earth ages meet? If your appetite has been whetted, then experience an expedition on the 7 km long Geological Circular Trail, which leads mainly along paths and trails close to nature.
During this hike you will discover:
Possible extension of the hike:
Connecting hike of approx. 5 km via the nature trail Kahler Pön
Tip: Guided geological tour (The four quarries tour)
Hikes with the Geopark guide are offered from April to October. Information about the dates can be found at www.medebach-touristik.de or by calling 02982-9218610.
Tour description: Approx. 4 km long round hike along a part of the premium trail Geological Circular Trail with interesting information about the history of the village, the current village situation, geology in the border area between Lower Kabon with tropical seas, coral reefs and underwater volcanoes, fossil search under guidance. From the cross mountain you can enjoy a fantastic view.
The trail with two steep ascents and descents, each 200 - 600 m long, is marked throughout with the cephalopod logo and equipped with information boards at 7 locations. It starts at the signpost tree at the church square in the village center and leads - first together with the Sauerland-Höhenflug and the Medebacher Bergweg - directly past the starting board for the historical village tour next to the church downhill to the village hiking board, then heading NE along the pedestrian path next to the L 854 to the cemetery. There you cross the L 854, then a brook and follow the steeply ascending historical cross path from 1859 to the Kreuzberg summit (535 m NN) with chapel, information boards and fantastic panoramic view. After leaving the forest, turn right and take a steep grassy descent towards the south. Then you meet the Vitsenböhl quarry, go back 100 m and, turning left, follow a valley path on the edge of the Kreuzberg slope towards the north. After crossing the outward section next to station 2, you cross the embankment of the L 854, cross it and are immediately at the Borghagen Quarry (Geotope of the Year 2005).Continue north along the valley edge trail, which eventually turns into a path, and you will come across a tarred path, which you follow steeply uphill in a northerly direction. Shortly before reaching the heights, take a sharp right (direction SW) and make a detour to the Gerkes Quarry, 100 m away. You march the 100 m back again and then continue to the nearby Wede parking lot. Here you turn left - now also on the Uplandsteig quality hiking trail - (heading north) and follow a grassy side path along the L 854 for 100 m. Then the hike heads west, first along the edge of the forest, then off to the left into the Buchenwald. After 200 m you will recognize a rivulet on the right of the path. This represents geologically a fault where two geological eras meet, the Carboniferous (our previous environment) and the Devonian. Shortly after, we come across the church quarry. Afterwards, the trail continues for about 1 km through different types of forest, occasionally interrupted by wide views, to Spitzbubenbusch, a medieval trading post on the Kurkölnisch-Waldeck border. Shortly thereafter, the Uplandsteig quality hiking trail turns sharply to the right towards the north, but you remain on the straight-ahead path for another 50 m and then turn left for the 400 m long descent via the medieval Meggers Holt-Hohlweg. At the exit of the path, a beautiful view opens up to Oberschledorn and to the left in the distance to Goldhausen on the Korbach Eisenberg. After another 200 m long steep descent along the edge of the forest, you then turn sharply left (north) at the sign tree, follow a slope path with a beautiful southern view and then reach the pedal basin (cozy resting place with a view of Goldhausen). Shortly after reaching the narrow tarred path, turn right onto a sloping meadow path surrounded by hedges. In the Buchenwald you cross the Riepenbach gorge and then come back to the village.
The path is not suitable for strollers.Difficult only in case of high snow (possibly from December to March).Current information about our forests - The bark beetle and its consequencesThe forest owners are trying to tackle the necessary measures in the forests and to remove the damaged wood. However, this work cannot be accomplished in a short period of time due to its magnitude. The clearing and reforestation of the damaged forest stands will therefore take a long time and sometimes lead to disruptions such as closures and detour in the forests. This must always be taken into account when visiting the forest. We therefore appeal to everyone who cares about the forest:Please understand that extensive forest work is necessary in the current situation and that this is currently accompanying your forest experience.Be especially attentive during your leisure activities and observe prevailing instructions and, if necessary, prohibitions. Please show consideration ...
