Pilgrimage church, Ibergweg 1, 34508 Willingen-Schwalefeld
Observation tower on Schwalenburg Castle
Theme: Eternally transient
Sauerland-Seelenorte - these are rocks and quarries, churches and hilltops, mighty trees and underground grottos, lakes and valleys. 43 places, spread over the Sauerland-Wanderdorf, were chosen because they are particularly impressive and have a special meaning for the people living in their surroundings. Not only today, but also in earlier times. They touch people emotionally, mentally and spiritually. They evoke strong resonances. They are places to which people wander and where they can switch off. Come to themselves. Enjoy the peace and quiet. Be inspired. Gain new insights. Even though each soul place tells its own story, there is one quality that connects them all: Living silence.
From the pilgrimage church we pass the cemetery, cross the K63 and turn into the street "Auf den Gärten". Immediately we continue on the left "Am Burgring", at the last houses we also keep left and continue on this path until we reach the Uplandsteig. We follow this to the left and arrive at the lookout tower of the Schwalenburg, from which you have a great view over the complex. Let the "soul place Schwalenburg" have an effect on you, let your thoughts wander, maybe back to the year 800, the time when the castle was built. What might have motivated people to build it here? What was life like in earlier times? What can still be felt today? You can also get to Schwalenburg via the hiking trail S6which starts in the center of Schwalefeld and leads back there. A relatively short hiking trail with slight inclines and beautiful views.
