We hike north around the Winterberg ski area past the golf course. In the idyllic Renautal we hike uphill towards the north slope and then along the Kurweg to Altastenberg.

Directions
From the tourist information past the shopping center "Neue Mitte" follow the course of the Kurweg to the turnoff "Im Hohlen Seifen" corner "Am Südhang". Continue straight uphill along the road "Am Südhang". Pass the camping site and go down the Rauher Busch towards the golf course. From here, follow the signs across the mine site and up the Renautal valley to the Nordhang. Turn right and continue along the Kurweg to Altastenberg until you reach the Haus des Gastes.Variant: Turn left at the Nordhang in the direction of Bremberg and follow the Kurweg via Bremberg, Herrloh back to the center of Winterberg.
Safty guidelines
Make sure you have good footwear. Winter boots with good tread or with snow claws are particularly suitable. Dress appropriately for the weather. Take a cell phone with you in case of emergency. Use trekking poles, which will give you a secure grip on snow and ice. Keep in mind that walking time on snow may increase. There may be icy spots on sunny slopes.
