This trail—which partly follows the Leo-Bitter Trail—is perfect for a leisurely hike, as it has no inclines. The route is dedicated to Leo Bitter (1913–1994), a graphic artist and illustrator who emigrated from the Sudetenland to Schmallenberg, where he made a name for himself as the long-time director of the tourism office and a recipient of the Federal Cross of Merit. The route first follows the L5, then joins the L3, and takes you along the lively little Latrop River. At the Waidmannsruh parking lot, follow the A2 through the idyllic valley to the Kaiser Spring and hike back along the Leo-Bittner-Weg (A1, L4, L5) to the vacation town of Latrop—the romantic “Federal Gold Village” and “European Silver Village.” There are various places to stop for refreshments there.
