Wenholthausen in the Wennetal valley was first mentioned in a document in 1288. Over the centuries, it developed from a farming and craftsmen's village into one of the leading vacation and climatic health resorts in the Sauerland Rothaargebirge Nature Park. Around 1,500 people live in Wenholthausen, which is now part of the municipality of Eslohe. The small village of Oesterberge at an altitude of over 500 meters and the manor of Haus Blessenohl at an altitude of 280 meters are also included.

Excellent signposted hiking routes, striking vantage points such as the Markshöhe with the "Hölter Hütte" and the historic Eibel with its large children's playground are not only a delight for hikers. It is not for nothing that the climatic health resort is a member of the Sauerland hiking villages. The "Sauerland Höhenflug", a "Quality Trail Wanderbares Deutschland", leads directly through the beautiful village. The SauerlandRadring, located right on the edge of the village, connects the Ruhrtal cycle path with the Lenneradweg and runs along the former railroad tracks. Attractive vacation farms ensure that many children visit the village with their parents and grandparents every year. Three hotels offer accommodation to vacation guests, especially short breaks, hikers, fly-fishing enthusiasts, cyclists and motorcyclists, as well as business travelers. The restaurants offer top-class Sauerland cuisine, which has won several awards. International food and drinks are also on offer, ranging from original Italian delicacies from Calabria to five-star menus of upscale gourmet cuisine. The "Hölter" history trail will help you to find your way around Wenholthausen more easily.

Visit the buildings and squares and get to know their history and stories.
