We hike north around the Winterberg ski resort past the golf course. In the idyllic Renautal valley, we hike uphill towards the northern slope and then along the Kurweg to Altastenberg.
From the tourist information office past the "Neue Mitte" shopping center, follow the Kurweg to the "Im Hohlen Seifen" junction at the corner of "Am Südhang". Continue straight ahead uphill along the road "Am Südhang". Pass the campsite and head downhill via the Rauher Busch towards the golf course. From here, follow the signs via the Minenplatz and up the Renautal to the Nordhang. Turn right and continue along the Kurweg to Altastenberg until you reach the Haus des Gastes.Alternative: Turn left on the northern slope towards Bremberg and follow the Kurweg via Bremberg, Herrloh back to the center of Winterberg.
Make sure you wear good footwear. Winter boots with a good profile or with snow claws are particularly suitable. Dress appropriately for the weather. Take a cell phone with you in case of an emergency. Use walking poles to keep your footing on snow and ice. Bear in mind that walking on snow can take longer. There may be icy patches on sunny slopes.
Simply enjoy the peace and quiet of the Renau Valley away from the hustle and bustle of winter sports.
