Küstelberg, hiking parking lot in the town center
Küstelberg, hiking parking lot in the center of the village
The panoramic circular trail runs almost exclusively through mixed forests. Large parts of the hike lead along the quality trails Medebacher Bergweg and Sauerland-Höhenflug. In the center of the village, the beautiful old half-timbered house Ewers immediately catches the eye. The route first leads towards the Schlossberg with its cozy alpine hut and the wide range of activities on offer. Extensive forests promise a pure nature experience - especially in spring, when the fresh green leaves sprout, or in autumn, when the trees glow colorfully in the sun. After a rather strenuous climb to the summit of the Rösberg, we are rewarded with a fantastic view of the Orketal, Elkeringhausen and the Winterberg plateau.
The circular hiking trail is marked throughout with the white/black K1.We walk along the street "Alter Pferdemarkt" into Steinweg and follow the main hiking trail X 13. After a few hundred meters, we keep right towards the Schlossberghütte and the Schlossberg parking lot. Once at the parking lot, we carefully cross the L 740 country road and reach the bus stop on the Schlossberg. Turn right towards Weinbracht until you reach the Schienenhütte, then follow the path towards Butterfeld and Rösberg and after approx. 1 km you will reach the Medebacher Bergweg, which accompanies you to Küstelberg.Tip: If you want to avoid the steep ascent to Rösberg at the end of the tour, you can also walk the circular route in the other direction, as the path is signposted in both directions.
Possible difficulties with snow from approx. November to March.
Current information about our forests - The bark beetle and its consequences
The forest owners are endeavoring to take the necessary measures in the forests and to remove the damaged wood. However, due to the extent of the damage, this work cannot be completed in a short space of time. The clearing and reforestation of the damaged forest stands will therefore take a long time and sometimes lead to disruptions such as closures and detour in the forests. This must always be taken into account when visiting the forest.
We therefore appeal to everyone who cares about the forest:
Understand that extensive forestry work is necessary in the current situation and that this is currently accompanying your forest experience.
Be particularly attentive during your leisure activities and observe the prevailing instructions and any prohibitions
