The Hunau ridge, which rises to a height of 818 meters, is one of the highest elevations in North Rhine-Westfalen. In addition to large stands of deciduous trees, the area is also home to two bogs—a rare sight in the Sauerland region.

Bogs are very rare in the Sauerland—yet on the Hunau ridge, which rises to a height of 818 meters, there are two such ecosystems. And it’s not just the “Nasse Wiese” and the “Rauhe Bruch” that are worth a hike—hikers can explore vast deciduous forests and fully immerse themselves in nature.
For more information about the Hunau, visit: www.naturschaetze-suedwestfalens.de
To reach the “Nasse Wiese” nature reserve, hikers should follow the 8.1-kilometer-long B 4 loop trail. Those who also want to see the second bog should take trail X 25 from there to the “Rauhen Bruch” and later return to the starting point via the same route.
We recommend wearing sturdy shoes with good traction, as well as bringing plenty of food and drinks.
A system of emergency aid stations has been set up in the Hochsauerland district. You can find these emergency aid stations on information boards at intersections and on hiking trail signs, among other places.
