water, hiking, and well-being—all of which are provided by the natural footbaths along the Kneipp Hiking Trail. Just follow in the footsteps of Father Sebastian Kneipp and, surrounded by the most beautiful nature, not only “tread in the water” but also enjoy the Kneipp elements of “medicinal herbs, movement, and balance.”

Olsberg Kneipp Hiking Trail —Hiking, Water, Well-Being
In the Kneipp spa town of Olsberg in the Sauerland region, health is a top priority. On the second stage of the Kneipp Trail—a“Quality Trail” certifiedby Wanderbares Deutschland—you’ll also find a natural footbath.
Pastor Sebastian Kneipp’s health philosophy is based on the pillars of exercise, balance, nutrition, water, and medicinal herbs. All of these pillars can be found on this stage of the Kneipp Hiking Trail. Culture isn’t left behind either—it’s right here on this hiking stage. Schellenstein Castle can be viewed from the outside. Schloss Gevelinghausen, with its beautifully maintained grounds, is also worth a visit. The Gevelinghausen Mill, located right along the trail, can be toured by appointment.
So, culture and wellness enthusiasts will find many great stops along this stage.
The starting point for this stage of the Kneipp Trail is Olsberg Touristik, Ruhrstrasse 32.There are also plenty of free parking spaces available there. You’ll find yourself right at the entrance to the Kneipp ErlebnisPark Olsberg. Now follow the Ruhr River (downstream) toward Bigge. Here, you can follow the newly established Kneipp Active Trail (marked by the blue watering can) all the way to the Ruhr floodplains. The trail now leads through the restored Ruhr floodplains, past Schellenstein Castle (view of the castle from the rear). At the large roundabout, cross over to the Olsberg Kneipp Trail, which is clearly marked with a “K.” After crossing the roundabout, we continue along the path marked with a “K,” heading uphill toward the Losenberg, where we can enjoy the beautiful panoramic views.Walking along the Losenberg, we arrive at the small village of Gevelinghausen with its castle, which is well worth seeing. We can visit the small local history museum in the “Gevelinghausen Mühle,” located along the route, by prior arrangement. The village offers a wide variety of places to stop for refreshments, and we also have the option of taking bus routes 349 or 350 back to Olsberg. The hike continues into the Elpe Valley, directly along the small stream to the footbath on the Elpe, where we can refresh our feet according to Pastor Kneipp’s method. Continuing along the Kneipp Trail, this stage leads toward Wiggeringhausen. There, we’ll need to cross the busy road to Fort Fun and, passing the horse stable on the opposite side, head uphill toward the Scheltenberg. The picturesque little village of Helmeringhausen is accessible via a 2-km detour and is well worth a visit. We now head back toward Bigge along the hiking trail marked with a diamond symbol.Walking along the cemetery toward the reservoir, we soon reach the center of Olsberg.
