Directions

#Views Schwalefeld – Rattlar (3.5 km, 101 m elevation gain) Time for the soul: The forest is like a cathedral. The undulating landscape offers glimpses and views of the peaks and valleys of life. The view sweeps far across the landscape, constantly revealing new perspectives. Selected Bible verses offer spiritual inspiration and encourage reflection on the marks life has left on you and the ones you wish to leave on the world. Changing landscapes enhance this experience. Directions: From the Pilgrimage Church, the trail leads down into the village of Schwalefeld and past the old church hall. You’ll cross the Aarbach and then hike uphill to the Frankenpfad. Enjoy the magnificent views. After the hill, you’ll catch sight of Rattlar with its small village church, the Lichterkirche. 10 stations, Parking: at the Pilgrimage Church#Pilgrimage is an adventure!Being on the move, running, asking questions, discovering new things, and finding answers: Children are always on the move and constantly searching. The Upland Children’s Pilgrimage Trail presents the biblical story of Noah, his ark, and the many animals as a kind of treasure hunt. The goal is to “rescue” six animals and bring them to the Lichterkirche in Rattlar. There, participants must find the right partner for each animal. Those who get everything right will experience a “multimedia surprise.” Start: Pilgrim Church in Schwalefeld. Here you’ll find paper and pencils for the “rescue of the animals.” Destination: Lichterkirche in Rattlar. The digital search for the matching animals begins on the monitor.#Pearls of Faith Rattlar – Usseln (5.1 km, 120 m elevation gain)God – I – Baptism – Desert – Serenity – Love – Mystery – Night – Resurrection – God – and in between, again and again: Silence. Bishop Lönnebo of Sweden developed this “string of pearls” as a guide to meditation and reflection. The entire spectrum of life and faith is condensed within this string. Signs at each station introduce each bead and its meaning, offering food for thought for the next section of the trail. When a storm comes that slows life down, let the beads glide through your hands and follow the reflections of the rosary. Route description: From the Lichterkirche, the trail leads you through Rattlar, up the valley to magnificent viewpoints. You’ll hike past the Upland Christenbörnchen. According to legend, St. Sturmius baptized Christians at this spring in the 8th century. That is why baptismal celebrations take place here in the summer. The trail’s destination is the Kilianskirche in Usseln, the mother church of the Upland region. 15 stations, parking: at the Lichterkirche#NewBeginnings Usseln – Willingen (6.2 km, 159 m elevation gain)You leave old hours and old days behind only hesitantly. They are as familiar to you as old clothes, through sorrow and joy. Setting out, letting go, venturing down new paths. How tempting—and yet so difficult. It takes courage to take those first steps. This section of the trail aims to take you along and guide you. It poses questions and offers insights designed to inspire you to observe and recognize. Recognition is the first step toward change. Set out on your hike and find your way back to yourself. Directions: At Kilianskirche, turn left and cross the main street. Sportstraße leads you to the swimming pool. Just before you reach it, take a small, signposted path up to the gas station. From there, the trail leads you through meadows and wooded areas and under the imposing viaduct—Willingen’s landmark—all the way to the Protestant church. 9 stations, Parking: Sportstraße (Schützenhalle/outdoor pool)#Enjoy with All Your Senses: Willingen – Schwalefeld (2.6 km, 2 Hm)“The senses are like a bridge from seeing to observing, from hearing to listening, from seeing to being moved.” (Peter Müller) You’ll perceive your surroundings in a whole new way. The grass swaying in the wind, the sun glinting through the canopy of leaves, the rustling foliage, the friendly faces of the people you meet. What you see, hear, or smell will blend with what you feel, what you remember, and what moves you. Directions: The hike begins at the Protestant church in Willingen. You’ll cross the main street and make your way through a wooded area and dark valleys to green meadows. The pilgrimage church in Schwalefeld is both the starting point and the end of the pilgrimage trail. If you’d like, you can now walk along the path lined with wood chips. The stations lead through the church interior, each corresponding to an element of a worship service. The sound of splashing water, gentle music, and the scent of fresh wood accompany you along the way. 7 stations, Parking: Willingen#InterfaithCoexistence Usseln – Schwalefeld (2.7 km, 32 m elevation gain) - Interfaith Peace TrailWe live in a world of open borders. It’s not uncommon for a coworker, neighbor, or classmate to belong to a different culture or religion. There is an increasing number of interfaith relationships. Religious intermingling is on the rise. The Interfaith Peace Trail brings people together. It enables Jews, Muslims, Christians, and Baha’is to find a loving, peaceful, and dignified way of living together. Nature serves as a source of strength in this process. Selected spiritual quotes inspire reflection and help us discover common ground. Directions: This route begins at the fork where the previous section, “Aufbrüche,” coming from Usseln, turns down toward the town of Willingen. It continues straight ahead on a scenic trail with many views of Willingen, past the Orenbergschanze to the memorial. After a hairpin turn, the trail veers right off the paved road onto a forest path and rejoins the Besinnungsweg shortly before Schwalefeld. Turn left for Willingen (approx. 2 km) or right to the Schwalefeld Pilgrimage Church (0.8 km) 7 stations, Parking: under the viaduct, Willingen
