The view of the famous Willingen Mühlenkopfschanze is impressive: every year it is the venue of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup and thus known to many people from television. From there, the trail runs through fir and mixed forest to the "Paradise". Hikers enjoy on the tour the dreamlike landscape, young, natural brooks and heavenly silence.

Among other things, the hiking trail leads along the nature reserve "Grebensteine". On the eastern slope of the Mühlenkopf, in the immediate vicinity of the ski jump, there is a rare gorge forest with a special primeval forest-like vegetation. Because of the large boulders, the steep area is also called a boulder pile forest. On rocks of gray clay slate, which are trickled by numerous small springs, grow summer lime trees, mountain elms and sycamores. The high humidity and low temperatures create a montane climate in which many alpine plants thrive in a herb layer.

On the forest nature trail you will go on a journey of discovery into the forest and you will learn a lot about the development of forest types, forest ants, trees, charcoal burning, as well as about life in dead wood.

Directions

Start in the street "Am Hagen", at the Lagunenbad turn left across the parking lot. At the railroad cut turn right towards the viaduct, there very steep downhill (danger of slipping when wet/snowy). Below the viaduct past the adventure golf course, cross a road and continue straight ahead to the Stryck district. Pass the water treading pool and Stryckteich, and enjoy the splashing of the Itter. In Stryck past the "Gutshof Itterbach" and the "Stryckmühle" to the largest large ski jump in the world. The trail continues through the romantic Strycktal (which means "long, narrow valley" in Celtic), past the "Grebensteine" nature reserve to the so-called Waschkump. From now on the path leads approx. 1.5 km upwards in the valley of the Hermecke and consequently through the "paradise". Before reaching the crest at about 780 m, turn right to return through spruce and mixed forest. After a good 3 km you reach the Mühlenkopfschanze again, but this time at the top of the inrun tower. The path continues downhill, after a sharp right turn it turns left onto the narrow forest nature trail. Past the charcoal pile and interesting illustrated insights into the local nature. Below the game park you can see Willingen in the valley and the beautiful mountain panorama around it.
