A loop hike from the valley up to the peaks of the Ginsterköpfe. Parts of the trail follow the certified Rothaarsteig and Briloner Kammweg trails.
The hike begins at the hiker’s parking lot above the Schützenhalle in the Brilon-Wald district and follows a loop above the town up to the Schusterknapp, where the route joins the Rothaarsteig and the Briloner Kammweg before reaching the Habberg and the Ginsterkopf. Once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with the literal highlight of the tour—at 663 m, you can simply enjoy the 360° view!
The trail continues downhill again to the mountain hut. If you’d like, you can now walk another 500 m downhill to the remarkable “Feuereiche” (Fire Oak ), which illustrates the history of human development in relation to the positive and negative uses of wood and fire, and then head back up the short stretch to the mountain hut.
The final few kilometers lead back down toward Brilon-Wald to the starting point of this impressive hike.

Sturdy footwear
Good footwear and a good level of fitness are definitely required, as there are some steeper sections to navigate.
Be sure to set aside time to enjoy the views at Ginsterkopf and Habberg. And don't let the steep start discourage you!
