You can download the accompanying flyer, including detailed directions, here.
Discover the Sauerland region and the “Federal Gold Village” of Oberhenneborn through the lens of a photographer. Developed in collaboration with renowned landscape photographer Klaus-Peter Kappest, this approximately 9-kilometer tour takes you past numerous scenic viewpoints and offers many tips on professional photography—explained in a way that’s easy to understand even for beginners. The focus isn’t necessarily on using high-end equipment, but rather on understanding how to create meaningful visual narratives and enjoying the experience of being in nature. So the Oberhenneborn Photo Route can be enjoyed just as much with a good cell phone camera as with professional equipment! Depending on your interests and how you feel about taking photos, you should plan on spending about 3 to 4 hours on the tour.

Starting from the "Todesbruch" hiking parking lot in Oberhenneborn, follow the Golddorf Route Oberhenneborn. After climbing up through the meadow, leave the Golddorf Route (which branches off to the left) and turn right onto the OH3. After about 50 m, you’ll reach the first stop on the photo route. Now follow the OH3 until you reach the “Hauptstraße” (Hennetalstraße) in the village, then turn left. After about 150 m, you’ll see the old bakehouse on the right—Station 2 of the photo route.Next, cross the wooden bridge, pass the farm’s barn, and turn right onto the paved road. After about 200 m, turn left (toward the church) and walk along the road toward Wüllner’s country inn. Just before the country inn, turn left onto the street “Zum Kreuz.” After about 75 m, you’ll reach the third stop. You’ll now follow the Oberhenneborn Golddorf Route for quite a while, initially uphill along the Way of the Cross. After about 350 m, the Golddorf Route turns left and the Bee Nature Trail begins—continue following the Golddorf Route and, after another 200 m, you’ll reach the next photo spot. Following the signs for the Golddorf Route, the path turns right after a short while and leads up a gentle slope through the meadow. Once you reach the top, you’ll find the fifth stop on the photo route on your right. Now continue following the golden “G” and pass the Kreuzkapelle (open during the day). After another climb along the paved road (which turns into a gravel path at the end), you’ll soon reach the next stop on the photo tour—the “selfie spot.” After finishing at this spot, walk back about 15 meters along the path and then continue along the Golddorf Route between the two fields until you see an old barn. Walk toward it and leave the Golddorf Route again. Immediately past the barn, you’ll come to a country road and turn left. After about 50 meters, turn right again and continue following the paved road. After a few meters, you’ll reach the “Golden Ratio” stop, and about 300 m further on, the “Golden Ratio in Landscape Views” stop. Continue along the paved road, which turns into a gravel path after a few meters. After passing the “Bench Between the 3 Birch Trees,” you’ll soon reach a turning area. At this point, take a sharp left and follow the path until you reach the highlight of the photo route—the “Homberg” panoramic view.Continue along the path and turn left onto the OR2 at the next intersection. After a short descent, you’ll find the next photography challenge. Now continue along the OR2 hiking trail until you reach a busy road again, near the chapel in Oberrarbach. Follow this road to the right for about 50 m (watch out for traffic!) and then turn right again onto the paved farm road. Follow this path for 1.5 km until you reach the SGV “Eulennest” hut. The next photo stop is located by the stream below the SGV hut, which you can reach via a clearly visible path. After completing this stop, return to the SGV hut and turn left onto the hiking trail toward Oberhenneborn. After about 900 m, you’ll reach Oberhenneborn and your starting point, the hiking parking lot at “Todesbruch.”
Family Tip: Along a section of the photo route, there is a bee nature trail with plenty of interesting facts about the fascinating life of bees.
