The "Buchenwald forests around Schanze" audio trail is an 11 km circular trail through the forests near Schanze. It consists of a total of 13 stations. As these stations build on each other in terms of content, you should hike the circular trail anticlockwise from station 1- 13. All stations are marked on site with posts and signs and have an additional QR code with which you can access the audio files in German, Dutch and English.

Directions

On the Rothaarsteig, you will first pass the Altarstein. The trail then takes you past the Dicken Eiche (thick oak tree) to the suspension bridge. With great views over the Schmallenberg Sauerland, the tour then takes you back to the hilltop village of Schanze. During the tour, you will also discover three sculptures on the Forest Sculpture Trail.

Wir empfehlen festes Schuhwerk, sowie ausreichend Verpflegung und Getränke mitzubringen.

Safty guidelines

A rescue point system has been installed in the Hochsauerland district. Rescue points can be found on the information boards at junctions and on hiking signs.

Author Tip

Am Ende Ihrer Tour lohnt sich ein Abstecher zum Kyrill- Pfad in Schanze. Dieser zeigt auf einem 1 km langen Pfad die Naturgewalt des Sturms "Kyrill", welcher im Jahr 2007 die Wälder des Sauerlandes nachhaltig zerstört hat.
