You start the circular walk at the Grafschaft monastery, the nucleus of the town of Schmallenberg. Originally, Grafschaft Monastery was a Benedictine monastery until secularization. After the Second World War, Kloster Grafschaft became the motherhouse of the Borromean nuns. The order runs the lung clinic Kloster Grafschaft.

From the Grafschaft monastery you hike along the Golddörfer route through Grafschaft and then up to the Wilzenberg (658m). On the Wilzenberg, the Wilzenberg Chapel, built in the 16th century, invites you to linger. Just a bit behind it, the almost ten meter high Kaiser-Wilhelm-Turm (Wilzenbergturm) invites you to a beautiful view over the Hochsauerland. Then it goes back down into the valley of the Grafschaft, a 6km long tributary of the Lenne.

In Grafschaft there are bus lines S40 / 461. To get to the starting point of the Golddorf Route, use the bus stop "Kirche". From Schmallenberg you can reach Grafschaft best with the line S40... to the timetable information: www.rlg-online.deWith the SschmallenbergerSauerland Card you can travel free of charge by bus and train in the region.

In the area of the Haus des Gastes, in the center of the village, there are limited parking spaces available. Additional parking is available at the "Wilzenberg" hikers' parking lot above Grafschaft (the hiking route passes directly by the hikers' parking lot).
